Rovers returned to KWS for their second home game of the season, looking to get back on the winning trail after the loss to Luton Sporting Club the week before. Rovers welcomed back Tim Watson in goal following his recent illness and were grateful to players who had already completed a school rugby match in the morning.

The game started with Clophill on the front foot, creating a half chance that went behind for a goal kick, before Rovers began to dominate the early passages, forcing two corners in quick succession, which had the Clophill defence scrambling.

In the 6th minute Rover's centre forward, George O'Connor was sent crashing to the ground in the left corner of the penalty box, with the referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot, much to the displeasure of the Clophill coaching team. It was a sign of things to come, with the referee consistently penalising both teams for overly physical challenges.

Harry Barrett stepped up to the mark and sent the keeper to his left with the ball going the opposite direction. Sadly for Rovers, the ball also slide just past the post.

After 15 minutes Clophill broke the deadlock slightly against the run of play, with the centre forward finishing well from the right hand side of the Rovers penalty box.

Rovers looked to level the scores almost immediately, with George O'Connor going through one-on-one with the keeper, but he was off his line smartly to close down the angle and make a fine save.

There followed an excellent chance for Clophill, with the centre forward powering a shot towards the left hand corner of the Rover's net, but Tim Watson pulling off a fantastic one-handed save to his right and somehow keeping the ball out of the goal.

The referee, showing his consistency, adjudged the Rovers defence to have impeded the Clophill winger towards the touchline on the right hand side of the box after 23 minutes. From the resulting free kick the Clophill no.5 used his height to dominate the Rovers defence and power a good header towards the bottom left hand corner. Diving full length to his right Tim got a hand to it, but was unable to turn it around the post on this occasion.

Again Rovers' heads didn't drop and they immediately piled the pressure back on to Clophill, Theo Faulkner, playing at number 10 had a goal-bound effort blocked by the Clophill defence, before Harry Barrett struck a low right footed effort across the goal, with the ball cannoning off the foot of the post.

With the first half drawing towards it's close it looked as though Rovers were going to be unlucky to go in two down. However, worse was to come, as the ball broke down the Clophill right and unleashing an unstoppable strike across the goal into the bottom right hand corner of the Rovers' net.

Somehow Rovers found themselves 0-3 down in a fairly even first half and with a mountain to climb to get something from the game.

In the opening exchanges of the second half Clophill had an excellent chance to make that challenge harder still. As Clophill again broke on the right Tim was out well to make a good save, but the ball popped up in the middle of the Rovers' penalty area for what appeared a simple tap in to make the game 0-4, however, somehow Harry Barrett recovered ground to clear the ball off the line.

In the 40th minute the ball was played through to George O'Connor, who was winning everything ahead of the Clophill centre backs. As he turned for goal he was impeded by the Clophill defence. Barrett lined up a free kick about 35 yards out and slightly right of centre. There seemed only one thought in his mind and he struck a powerful effort to the far left hand corner, entering the net after one bounce. 1-3 and a lifeline for Rovers.

Conceding the goal shook up the Clophill team and Rovers started to enjoy dominance in the middle of the pitch. Firstly Aaron Rawnsley fired just over from the edge of the box, before another free kick opportunity saw Theo strike a powerful freekick over the right corner with the keeper beaten.

The pressure soon told, with Yunus Chowdhury sending Will Mackie clear through the middle and Mackie calmly finishing in the bottom left hand corner for 2-3.

As Rovers pushed for the equaliser the game began to get stretched, presenting Clophill with two half chances that they put wide. But with 5 minutes remaining Yunus again played a ball through the middle, the determination of Harry Barrett to get to the ball first was crucial, as he nudged it past the Clophill keeper before rounding him to tap in and completed the second half comeback.

Rovers, tails up, now pushed for the winner. The best chance to take the 3 points fell from a corner, as the ball bounced through, Sebastian Blake connected powerfully with a header at the far post, which looked like it was in, but for some heroics from the Clophill keeper, who dived to his left to keep the ball out and ensure that they didn't leave empty handed after a three goal half-time lead.

Overall, a great second half performance from Rovers, who came agonisingly close to securing the three points and completing a remarkable comeback.
